Favorite Assignment: Reflections

Updated: Dec 19, 2019

This is my favorite photography assignment so far in the year. I previously took one photo using a reflection for the scavenger hunt assignment, but since then my camera and editing skills have vastly improved.

These photos were taken the day after rain, a very rare occurrence here in California. There was water spewing off of the second floor of each building making certain puddles have cool affects. The coolest photos were taken when there was broad daylight as the tranquility of some puddles showed almost perfect reflections. In the first photo, there appeared to be some unknown liquid in the water to give the puddle a strange coloration, which created a cool photo. This was my favorite assignment as it reveals what photography is, the capture of light and not images. Through this assignment I figured out our photos were affected by the direction and intensity of the light more than what we were photographing. The puddle forced us to use different angles to capture things that were very high, or super low on the ground. Because of these reasons this was the most fun and educational assignment we have had.
